Over the last few months our streets have seen a significant rise in potholes being reported. Poor weather has had a significant detrimental impact on the condition of our streets. Islington Labour are working hard with our communities and our council to ensure that our streets are safe and well-maintained.

In the recent budget passed by Islington Labour we have also allocated £4 million to road maintenance to ensure that every action can be taken to tackle the issue. To get a grip over the increasing pothole issue Islington Labour have also implemented a new pothole repair scheme which includes bringing in support for the Highways Reactive Team (in charge of repairing our roads) and a dedicated patching plan for roads that have deteriorated significantly.

In Islington we have a target repair time for potholes at 72 hours from reporting, which over the last few years has hovered near and around 100%. However, we understand that this has dropped somewhat earlier in the year due to high demand. Easing of poor weather and the additional resources brought in by Labour have helped Islington to begin returning to that success rate.

Islington Labour are also investing into our roads and trialling innovative new technology to ensure that council funding stretches further and repairs are tackled quicker. This spring there will be a repetition of the capital renewal programme that will deal with the underlying causes of potholes. This is because we know that fixing the fundamentals are vital in protecting our roads and keeping them safe.

Since January the number of potholes filled by the council is 62% more than those filled in all of 2025, the council have been hard at work ensuring that over 2,600 potholes have been filled over the last two-and-a-half months.

If you find a pothole in Islington (or any other street-issue) please report it on the Love Clean Streets – Login app. If you find a pothole on a red route, please report it to TfL at Contact us about streets and road issues – Transport for London. We want to continue doing everything we can to ensure that our streets are safe, accessible, and well-maintained for everyone.
