Emily Thornberry, MP for Islington South and Finsbury
Emily joined the Labour Party when she was 17, motivated by her experiences being raised by her mother, a single parent living on a council estate. She has lived in Islington for the last 27 years and was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Islington South and Finsbury on 5 May 2005. During her time as the local MP, she has helped thousands of individual constituents and has been an independent-minded voice for people in her area in Parliament.

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London
Sadiq Khan is the Mayor of London. The Mayor’s role as the executive of London’s strategic authority is to promote economic development and wealth creation, social development, and improvement of the environment. Sadiq Khan was born in London and has lived here all his life. His parents moved to London from Pakistan in the 1960s. He was state-school educated in Tooting before studying Law at the University of North London. Sadiq became a solicitor specialising in human rights and was a councillor in the London Borough of Wandsworth from 1994 to 2006. In 2005, Sadiq was elected MP for Tooting. He was appointed Minister of State for Communities in 2008 and later became Minister of State for Transport, becoming the first Muslim and first Asian to attend Cabinet. He was first elected Mayor of London in 2016, and is now in his third term.

Sem Moema AM
Sem Moema AM represents North East London, which includes Islington, Hackney, and Waltham Forest, on the Greater London Assembly (GLA). Sem is Labour’s lead on housing at the Assembly, spearheading campaigns on renters rights, more support for mortgage holders, and crucially, building more homes in the capital for social rent. Her successful campaigns include lobbying government to increase Local Housing Allowance, holding the Met Police to account over their mistreatment of ethnic minority children such as Child Q and protecting Hackney’s historic railway arches and the businesses that operate within them. Sem is also a councillor in Hackney, in Hackney Downs ward, and is Deputy Cabinet Member for Private Renting and Housing Affordability.
