Statement from Islington Labour Group

Islington is a borough built on solidarity, compassion and community. We are proud of our long-standing commitment to welcoming those fleeing conflict and persecution, and we stand firmly with refugees and asylum seekers who have come here seeking safety.

We are appalled that far-right extremists are seeking to stir racial hatred against refugees and other migrants here in Islington.

Islington Labour strongly opposes the anti-refugee protest planned to take place on 2nd August at the Thistle City Barbican Hotel.

We know our residents care deeply about fairness and dignity for all. That’s why we continue to work with local partners to ensure support is available for those in need, while pressing for long-term solutions that respect both the rights of asylum seekers and the needs of our communities.

There is no place for hate or division in Islington. We urge everyone to stand together in kindness and unity.
