Councillor Ruth Hayes
Councillor, Clerkenwell Ward | Chair of Environment, Climate Change and Transport Scrutiny Committee
Ruth was elected as one of the Councillors for Clerkenwell in May 2022. She has lived in Islington for 30 years, and worked in the borough for almost 20 years. She has a background in the voluntary sector, and is a trustee and volunteer with several local charities.
She is Trade Unions Vice-Chair of the Labour Party National Women’s Committee and is a campaigner for equality and social justice. She is the Centre Director at Islington Law Centre. She is also an active Trade Unionist, within Unite the Union, and the Islington Trades Council. She chairs the Environment, Climate and Transport Scrutiny Committee and Grievance Appeal Committee, and is also on the Corporate Resources and Economy Scrutiny Committee and the Standards Committee.
