The Finsbury Park Ward Councillors are writing to provide you with an update about your area and the work we have been doing. Together, as a hardworking team of three, we have been working on and achieved the following as part of a Labour administration at Islington Council:
- Finsbury Park Ward is becoming greener, with a new council parklet and planter garden on Mayton Street for local people to use. Planting new trees on the Andover Estate and in our streets too. Gardening projects with residents on the Andover Estate. Designing improvements to Isledon Gardens with the Friends of the gardens. These are some of Islington Labour’s efforts to do our part in tackling the climate crisis and making our streets future proof.
- Working with Transport for London (TfL) on a new cycle route to enable people to cycle between Finsbury Park and Holloway Road in segregated lanes. These are part of the Mayor of London’s mission to tackle climate change by encouraging more people to cycle.
- There are a series of improvements being made to Woodfall Park which include upgraded sports court, a new play area, new gym equipment, new lawn area, additional benches, more planting to promote biodiversity and improved layout and pathways of the park to provide clear views and sight-lines. These improvements will revitalise the space by creating new play, sports and fitness facilities for the local community to enjoy.
- The Labour-run council is building 42 new and much needed council homes on the Andover Estate. Work on the estate also includes building four new play areas, new lighting, a new youth hub in the community centre and the planting of new trees, shrubs and flowers.
- The Ward Councillors are also continually working with the police and the council’s community safety team to tackle crime and Anti-Social Behaviour in the our area. This has included joint site visits with the authorities to our estates and town centre areas at the Nags Head and Finsbury Park to work out actions to tackle drug crime and ASB. Since being re-elected in 2022, we have held two Women’s walks along Blackstock Road with the police to work out measures to tackle crime and ASB, with a number of Safe Havens being hosted by local businesses.
