To mark ten years since the murder of Jo Cox MP, Islington Labour are taking part in a cross-party community clean-up along Regent’s Canal.

The Great Get-Together is an annual celebration of everything that connects our communities, inspired by Jo Cox’s belief that we have more in common than that which divides us. At a time when politics can feel increasingly angry and divided, coming together in practical service of our community is one small but powerful way to reject hatred, extremism and division.

A canal litter-pick is one way for councillors to demonstrate their civic pride in their area and environment. In bringing together communities from across party lines and show care for each-other and their area.

We will be hosting a cross-party litter-pick on Saturday 20th June at 10.30am from the junction of Baring Street and New North Road. The clean-up is supported by the Canal & River Trust, who will provide materials and bring a boat to collect the litter gathered on the day.

This event is about bringing people together across political lines to take action for a shared local space — showing that respect, kindness and community spirit are stronger than those who seek to divide us.

No experience needed — just come along, bring gloves, get stuck in, and help show what community action and togetherness can achieve.
