In a time of heightened violence against the Jewish community in Britain, this Green party motion is a divisive and shameful moment for their party.
The rise in discrimination across Britain in recent years, especially antisemitism and Islamophobia, is fuelled by the rhetoric that is in this motion. It is the duty for everyone in public to show solidarity with affected communities rather than inflame tensions.
Islington Labour believes that this should be a time for communities to support each other and come together in solidarity and strength. This motion has only encouraged further division between communities.
The passing of the motion and the failure of the amendment regarding protecting Jewish members are a direct failure of the Green Party leadership, of which all members should be ashamed.
We call on the Green Party to do the right thing and work towards building bridges to connect the communities that we serve, rather than seeking to divide them.
