Islington councillors are now standing with the campaign to end gambling ads (CEGA) to lobby to end gambling advertising in Islington. Pictured outside the Town Hall this week the Labour councillors committed to stand with the campaign to safeguard and protect Islington’s communities from gambling harms.
Councillor Heather Staff, chair of the Licensing committee stated: “Gambling ads target the most vulnerable, it is time that these companies take accountability for the harm they cause. 30% of 11-17 year olds gamble with their own money better regulation and tighter controls are vital to protect our communities”.
Councillor Angelo Weekes, executive member for community safety stated: “my priority as executive member for community safety is to protect families and our communities from the harms of gambling. I have witnessed first-hand how gambling harms people’s lives. Here in Islington we are doing everything we can to prevent any more gambling-related harms”.
