Islington Labour is concerned by the updated Equality and Human Rights Commission code of practice. We know that trans people currently face unacceptably high levels of abuse, exclusion and fear, and we take seriously the responsibility of public leadership in pushing back against that reality.
Islington Labour previously made explicitly trans‑inclusive representations to the Equality and Human Rights Commission consultation on proposed statutory guidance around single‑sex spaces. Policies that restrict participation in everyday life or increase exposure to violence are not compatible with our values here in Islington.
Locally, our record and our values are unequivocally trans‑inclusive. We send our support to trans residents and are committed to upholding their rights, dignity and safety.
