The Regent’s Canal and its towpath is a wonderful asset for our area, but too often we hear concerns about its cleanliness and safety. Fly tipping and litter along the canal can spoil our enjoyment of the waterway, irresponsible cycling makes pedestrians feel unsafe using it, and some fuels burned by boaters can seriously damage air quality.
We are calling on the Canal and River Trust (the organisation responsible for maintaining the canal and adjoining land) to keep our towpath clean and safe for all – by working with your local Labour councillors to:
- Tackle litter and graffiti along the canal
- Address unsafe cycling on the towpath (where possible directing cyclists onto safe routes on adjoining streets);
- Make the Islington ‘Eco Mooring Zone’ permanently fully electric only;
