Labour candidate for the Hillrise by-election, Shreya Nanda, has been successfully elected as a Councillor with the election taking place yesterday.
Shreya Nanda received 968 votes, on a 20.49% turnout with 2243 votes cast.
Speaking on her election, Shreya said: “I look forward to getting to work on the issues that matter the most to the residents of Hillrise. From issues with housing, to crime and antisocial behaviour to the need to tackle the climate emergency, the need to tackle these issues with my fellow Labour Councillors in the Town Hall is paramount. I have enjoyed getting to know the residents of Hillrise over recent weeks and speaking to them about the issues that matter the most to them. Islington is my home and it is an honour and a privilege to be elected and I look forward to representing Hillrise in the Town Hall.”
Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Leader of Islington Council, has said:
“I am delighted that Shreya has won the Hillrise by-election and will be joining the Labour Group on Islington Council. Shreya has fought a positive and tireless campaign, talking to thousands of voters over the past few weeks.
“Her commitment and dedication will make her an excellent representative for the people of Hillrise and I’m excited to see what she will achieve as a Councillor.”
