Islington’s diversity is our strength.
As a Borough of Sanctuary, Islington has always been a place where communities and people from different walks of life come together, and it continues to be today.
We always stand together against all forms of racism and hatred in our wonderful borough and reaffirm our support in tackling Islamophobia. The racist attacks carried out by the far right in the last week in other parts of the country must be condemned.
Politicians, local leaders and community members must stand together against division and stand against this dangerous and frightening increase in racism and white supremacy that has been stoked by the far-right.
We are proud of being a part of London that is welcoming, and everyone is embraced regardless of their background. That is the Islington that we pride ourselves on being and we will continue to nurture a borough of diversity, equality and inclusion.
We encourage anyone who has been a victim of, or witnesses a hate crime to use the channels below to report it:
- Call 999 in an emergency – when the offender is still in the area, someone has been injured or there is a risk to life
- Report it online to the local police
- Call 101 to make a non-emergency report to the police
- To report anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
