Today the new EHRC Code of Practice for single-sex services comes into effect. Islington Labour is incredibly concerned about the negative consequences for our residents, particularly those from the trans community.
We are committed to being an inclusive borough and to continue to uphold the rights, dignity, and safety of our trans residents.
Policies that restrict participation in everyday life or increase exposure to violence, like those that have been set out in the new EHRC guidance, are not compatible with the values of Islington Labour.
We will work to ensure that Islington Labour provides the most inclusive services possible for all our residents under the new guidance.
Islington Labour would welcome further guidance from the government on how to ensure everyone in our borough, no matter their gender identity, can lead a safe life, free to express and be themselves.
