Streets around Tufnell Park are getting an upgrade thanks to Islington Labour councillors, including a news zebra crossing and street refurbishment and maintenance.
Councillors Satnam Gill, Tricia Clarke, and Gulcin Ozdemir have been working hard to improve the streets around Carleton Road, Dalmeny Avenue, and Tufnell Park Road. As they have seen first hand how important it is for residents to be able to take pride in their local area and enjoy a place that is safe, enjoyable, and uplifting.
After working with local campaigners and residents, the councillors have successfully won a new zebra crossing on Dalmeny Avenue to ensure there is a safe crossing for pupils in the nearby Tufnell Park Primary and The Bridge Secondary schools, which are both also receiving an upgrade, and for residents. The new zebra crossing will be improved with higher visibility, introduction of natural elements, and anti-skid surfacing to further protect pedestrians.
As part of improving the surrounding streets new benches and stepping posts have been installed on the corner of Tufnell Park Road and Carleton Road, the beds are due to be filled with plants in the upcoming weeks and trees will be planted in autumn. This is a huge step for the local street to be a resident-centred source of nature.
The councillors are also working on further improvements into the area around Carleton Road and Dalmeny Road. These works will expand on the existing works done in the surrounding areas
Tufnell Park councillor Satnam Gill said: “These works are vital in ensuring that our streets are save and liveable for our residents, the improvements have shown the importance of putting residents and communities at the heart of street design. We hope that these improvements will encourage a sense of pride in the area”.
Islington Labour have not only worked with residents to ensure that the zebra crossing local groups have been calling for has been installed. They have also gone above and beyond to ensure that their streets are the best they can be to work for local residents and communities.
